Hemingway and Fitzgerald

Miriam Mandel, Tel Aviv University

Description
We will look at the making and reading of these authors' major works, focusing on their use of biographical, historical, geographical and literary "fact" in the creation of their short and long fiction. Among topics to be discussed will be the relationship between structure, point of view, and meaning, as well as the relationship between fiction, biography, and current events at home and abroad. In the process we will see how their own and succeeding generations read Hemingway and Fitzgerald (the men and their work) differently. Class participation is important.
